Season 7 Update Highlights

It's been more than a month since the Vessel of Hatred expansion and Season 6 launched.

With that chapter underway, focus is turning to the 2.1 PTR as preparations begin for Season 7.

Blizzard has just wrapped up the 2.1 PTR Campfire Chat, giving a preview of upcoming changes.

Patch notes for the 2.1 update and Season 7 will be published Wednesday, November 27.

The 2.1 PTR will include account-copy functionality so you can duplicate your characters and progression onto the PTR for testing.

PTR-specific boosts and conveniences will be added to make testing Season 7 content and collecting feedback easier.

Season 7 introduces a number of seasonal systems and items, plus focused balance work across many skills and passives.

Sorceress / Witchcraft changes: many parts of the kit were reworked to reduce the dominance of burning-conjuration builds and open up more viable playstyles.

Witchcraft progression items and new season-unique gear will be available to test on PTR.

Fire Bolt enchantment has been overhauled: burning damage removed and a healing component added.

Devouring Blaze passive: pyromancy skills now grant +10% critical strike damage.

Multiple skill and passive buffs for the class are included.

Hammer of the Ancients and Walking Arsenal both received significant tuning and buffs.

Earthquake received several buffs plus a new legendary aspect — Aspect of Incendiary Fissures — that changes how fissures behave.

Ball Lightning received updates across variants (Mage’s Ball Lightning, Wizard Ball’s Lightning).

Two new unique foci for Ball Lightning: Strike of Stormhorn turns it into a splash projectile; Okun’s Catalyst causes ball lightnings to orbit the caster.

Werewolf / Season of the Werewolf updates: numerous werewolf buffs and targeted changes to poison-centric builds.

Shred now boosts poison damage and the Aspect of the Blurred Beast makes Shred deal 55–75% more damage; its first dash can land up to four additional strikes based on distance traveled.

Savage Boulder now deals poison and applies an extra 156 [56%] poison damage over 4 seconds.

Innate Blood Howl now also generates 20 Spirit and grants 25% increased damage while remaining in werewolf form.

Aspect of Wolf’s Rain: casting Hurricane spawns a smaller hurricane on your wolves for 8 seconds that deals 5–15% of Hurricane’s damage per active wolf.

Summons and clones: Shadow Clones gain the Summon tag and have their damage attributed to the player, so they can trigger lucky-hit effects and interact with the player’s damage modifiers.

Note: this summoning behavior change applies to other summons as well (for example, Druid companions).

New uniques and item updates:

• Assassin’s Stride (boots): skills are always shadow-imbued with 40–80% increased potency.
• Kessime’s Legacy (pants): Blood Wave now forms a wave on each side of the caster.
• Indira’s Memory (pants): Blood Wave triggers a Bone Prison on enemies hit; Bone Spear becomes a blood skill and, after hitting, consumes a nearby corpse to launch an additional Bone Spear while draining 10% maximum life per cast.
• Ring of Writhing Moon (underused unique) improved: Pestilent Swarm now spawns every 4 seconds (down from 10).

New legendary aspect for Razor Wings: Aspect of Endless Talons.

Miscellaneous item and tuning changes:

• Rod of Kepeleke nerfed: critical strike damage per Vigor point reduced to 0.5% (down from 3%).
• Several fixes addressing cases where Spiritborn dealt more damage than intended.
• Centipede and Razor Wings received buffs.

Caltrops received a usability improvement: the backward-jump animation was removed to make the skill smoother to use.

Blood Necromancer received itemization improvements and better synergies with Overpower mechanics.

Rathma’s Vigor passive has been revised (key passive changes applied).

Ultimate system updates: new rank 5 bonuses unlock stronger gameplay or damage scaling; the skill tree and paragon boards now include support for ultimate damage; additional legendaries and two new legendary aspects (Vehement Brawler’s Aspect and Aspect of Apogeic Furor) were added to support Ultimate builds.

Multiple smaller skill tweaks, buffs, and passive adjustments are included across classes to broaden viable builds and improve balance heading into Season 7.

Runeword Adjustments and Overflow

Multiple runewords have been reworked and adjusted.
All invocation runes now include overflow; many have reduced costs so they proc and overflow more often.
Several ritual runes were redesigned to produce larger, more impactful overflow moments.

Seasonal Content Updates

Added three new runewords:
- Nagu
- Igni
- Chac

The seasonal realm is arriving on the PTR for the first time, bringing a wealth of seasonal content to test and explore.

Witchcraft-style seasonal powers are back in play for the first time since Season 2 (the Season of Blood), introducing new gameplay options.

Defeat Headrotten—abomination enemies that spawn from the Tree of Whispers—to collect Restless Rot as your primary resource.

Bring Restless Rot to altars scattered across the realm and offer it to unlock witchcraft abilities.

To use witchcraft, open the Witchcraft menu in your inventory and assign the powers you want to equip.

You can slot up to five standard powers plus one unique power for a total of six active abilities.

Restless Rot is also used directly in your inventory to upgrade your witchcraft powers and improve their effects.

Collect the favor of the coven from whispers to earn your rewards.

Unlock standard items and materials as you progress.

Reach specific tiers to access new witchcraft for learning.

The resplendent spark makes its return once more.

Explore forgotten altars hidden in dungeons to unlock ancient abilities!

Over 20 unique powers await discovery throughout Sanctuary.

The whispers grow louder as the Tree seeks the Headrotten.

Similar to Helltides, these are dynamic subzone events.

Headhunts combine fresh whispers with familiar ones for new challenges.

Finishing whispers may summon a powerful Headrotten boss.

Bring a boss's head to the Tree and earn occult gems as your reward.

Occult gems are special socketables with unique effects to refine your build.

The town area surrounding the World Tree has been redesigned with a cleaner, more efficient layout.

A raven courier now appears at every headhunt to collect your caches, reducing trips back to town.

Ancestral caches have been introduced; each one guarantees at least one ancestral item.

Ancestral item changes: the top-tier aspect roll has been removed, baseline drop rates have been increased, and gem fragments are converted—resulting in fewer direct gem drops.

Paragon migration support has been added.

Unique power roll mechanics have been updated to alter how powers are assigned on uniques.

Class quest adjustments: rewards are gated and only unlock when you reach the required level, though quests can still be completed beforehand.

The Armory feature is coming soon.
